I’m convinced rationality is an emotional achievement, as much as an intellectual one.
If we don’t want truth, we’ll just use our intellectual powers to deceive ourselves. Yet, wanting is an emotional matter. We train in critical thinking, rationality, sensemaking — but we don’t train in truth-wanting.
This blog is half-diary, half-cookbook, from my own journey in training myself to want truth.
Here are a few places to start:
Pain makes us stupid — Things we want more than truth
Beating the Final Boss of Philosophy — What to do when thinking runs dry
Mortification of the Intellect — When to stop learning new things
